TECH: †he BlackBerry Q10**oosHhey!

The Blackberry Z10 came alive earlier in the year aTnd it saw lots of people rd a go at it with special bundles and plans and all sorts just to get you to buy. It’s safe to say the prince of the BB10 OS has arrived now. People really just could not wait for this one to be released because of the QWERTY. We will take an in depth look at the phone in comparison to its brother the Z10 and a slightly unfair comparison to other phones out there at around the same price.

After a few days with the Q10 here is what you would say:

  • Full physical keyboard

  • Impressive web speeds

  • Updated BB10

  • Decent battery life

But then, when you wake up and smell the grass you will begin to say this:

  • Odd screen size

  • Lack of apps

  • Very expensive

  • Not great for games/movies

Blackberry q10

You might notice there is no trackpad on the Q10… Yuup… Just making sure it looks less similar to the Bold 9900 I suppose. The plus is you finally get a keyboard for this BB 10 OS and the battery life is quite decent, unlike the situation with your current blackberry. The Blackberry 10 OS got an upgrade to 10.1 which basically fixed most bugs if not all and improved security for firms who use the platform for business and employees… Its a great phone and it looks really nice.Like i said earlier, The major plus here is the Keyboard… This has always been the winning formula for Blackberry… But should that be all they have to offer? I mean, some tech journalists have even said the keyboard will be the main, if not the only reason people will jump to buy this particular phone. It comes with a very predictable 8Mega pixels camera which got extra features with the 10.1 upgrade… Not that this means much in any case.

Let’s talk about the price, sitting at around $800 which is roughly about 126,000 naira… one can’t help but wonder… why dont i just get a Samsung Galaxy S4 at a significantly cheaper price or maybe even the acclaimed best smartphone in the world… The HTC one. The only advantage the Q10 has is the keyboard but if you stop and think for a minute, how many smartphones in this generation actually spot keyboards… they will tell you its the best QWERTY smartphone out there but doesnt that simply mean its the best of one? It has no features that actively let it compete against smartphones in its price range. As far as i know its a business tool and its over priced. So yes if you love your BBM and cant do without a keyboard feel free to opt at the Q10 but that’s just about it. There is nothing special about the phone. As far as smartphones go right now the HTC one or the S4will do just fine. And if you are all about the decent pricing, there is always that LG Nexus 4. I think i’m even allowed to say the Z10 is a better phone to spend your money on.
